Our Methodology

How We Score Products

Every product reviewed on ReviewedList follows the same transparent editorial process. While the evaluation criteria vary by category, our commitment to consistency, independence, and practical recommendations never changes.

One process. Every category. No exceptions.

Our Editorial Philosophy

We're Not Looking for a Single Winner

Different families need different things. Our job is to make the trade-offs clear, not to hand you the same answer as everyone else.

Not our approach

"We find the best product."

✓ How we actually work

We help families make confident purchasing decisions by evaluating products consistently, explaining trade-offs, and recommending products based on different needs — not a one-size-fits-all winner.

Our Review Process

The Same Six Steps, Every Time

Every product category goes through this process. The evaluation criteria simply change to match what actually matters for that type of product.

1

Research

We study the category, the competitive landscape, and what real buyers struggle with.

2

Hands-On Evaluation

Products are used in real conditions, not just assessed on spec sheets.

3

Category Scoring

Each product is scored against a framework built for that category.

4

Comparison

We compare it against real alternatives, not against a hypothetical ideal.

5

Editorial Review

A second editor checks scoring, tone, and accuracy before anything publishes.

6

Ongoing Updates

Reviews are revisited as products, prices, and the market change.

Category-Specific Criteria

Every Category Has Its Own Scorecard

We don't pretend every product is judged the same way. The qualities that matter most for a baby monitor aren't the qualities that matter most for a stroller — so neither are our scorecards.

CategoryExample Evaluation Areas
Baby MonitorsLiveVideo quality, connection reliability, privacy & data security, app experience
StrollersComing soonManeuverability, fold size & ease, ride comfort, storage capacity
Car SeatsComing soonSafety features, installation difficulty, comfort, ease of cleaning
High ChairsComing soonStability, cleaning, tray & height adjustability
Why the criteria change: every category has its own weighted scorecard because the qualities that matter most differ from one product type to another. A monitor lives or dies on video quality and privacy; a car seat lives or dies on safety and installation. Scoring them the same way would tell you less, not more.

Universal Principles

What Stays Constant Across Every Category

Regardless of what we're reviewing, every product is considered against the same six fundamentals.

Build Quality

Materials, construction, and how the product holds up to real, repeated use.

Ease of Use

How intuitive the product is on day one — and on the hundredth use.

Long-Term Value

Whether the product still earns its price a year in, not just at unboxing.

Reliability

Consistent performance over time, and how the brand handles it when something fails.

Customer Experience

Support quality, warranty terms, and how the company treats its buyers after the sale.

$

Price vs. Competitors

Whether the price is justified relative to what similar products in the category offer.

Recommendation Badges

Badges That Work Across Every Category

Beyond the numeric score, we award badges that point you toward the right product for your specific situation — the same badge system, category after category.

What We Don't Do

Independence Isn't a Tagline Here

A handful of hard rules keep our recommendations honest — on every review, in every category, with no exceptions.

We don't sell rankings.

We don't accept payment for placement.

We don't hide product weaknesses.

We don't declare a single winner for every shopper.

Keeping Reviews Current

Why Scores Change Over Time

A review isn't a one-time snapshot. We revisit our coverage as the facts on the ground change.

Products Change

Manufacturers update materials, features, and design

Firmware Changes

App and software updates shift the real-world experience

%
Prices Change

Value scoring shifts as pricing moves up or down

Better Competitors Launch

A new release can change how a product ranks

Products Are Discontinued

We retire or flag reviews for products no longer available

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Our Methodology

The most common questions we get about how scoring and editorial decisions actually work.

Does every product use the same scoring system?

+
No. Every product category has its own evaluation framework because the qualities that matter most are different. A baby monitor isn't judged using the same criteria as a stroller, but every category follows the same editorial standards of consistency, transparency, and independent evaluation.

How often are reviews updated?

+
We revisit reviews whenever something material changes — a firmware update, a price change, a new competitor, or a product being discontinued. There's no fixed schedule; the trigger is a real change worth reflecting, not a calendar date.

Do you accept payment from brands to influence scores or rankings?

+
No. Scores and recommendations are never for sale. We may earn a commission if you buy through a link on our site, but that has no bearing on how a product is scored — the affiliate relationship is disclosed and kept entirely separate from editorial decisions.

What does the ReviewedList Score actually mean?

+
It's a single 0–10 number that summarizes a product's performance across its category's weighted scorecard. It's meant as a fast signal, not the whole story — the written review is where we explain the trade-offs behind the number.

Can a product receive a perfect score?

+
In principle, yes — but in practice it's rare. Most products are strong in some areas and compromised in others, which is exactly the kind of nuance the score and the review are built to surface.
